CALGARY - Police have released new photos of a violent sexual offender wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after disappearing from his Calgary home only two weeks after he was released from prison.
Some of the images have been digitally altered to show how Dean Robert Zimmerman, 44, would look with a beard or if he shaves off his goatee.
The Calgary Police Service also has photos of him leaving his home with a backpack and duffle bag, which is leading investigators to believe he may have intended to leave the city.
Police said it’s possible he may have hitchhiked out of town.
They are asking anyone who has seen Zimmerman, or may have given him a ride, to contact police.
Three Canada-wide warrants have been issued for Zimmerman who served more than three years in a federal prison for sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
There have only been a few unconfirmed sightings of the man.
Police warned he may be staying in a hotel or motel and people who work or are staying at those accommodations to be wary.
CALGARY - Calgary police say a violent rapist on the loose is going down a dangerous path to reoffend "imminently" and may be on his way to British Columbia.
Dean Robert Zimmerman is still at large after missing a curfew check at his home Wednesday morning.
Police are now working with British Columbia law enforcement because they believe Zimmerman, who once assaulted his pregnant spouse for two days, has ties to the West Coast.
"He has entered into the beginning phases of his offence cycle and poses a significant risk to the public," said Const. Jason Bobrowich of the high-risk offender unit.
Since going public with the news Wednesday, police have received a number of tips from the public, who thought they may have seen him.
However, none of the tips led to Zimmerman, whom police believe may be heading to British Columbia.
Arrest warrants now include charges of fraud, as well as breaching conditions of his release.
Police said they have video of Zimmerman from the Calgary home he was staying at.
Zimmerman, 44, was released from prison on Sept. 29 after serving a 40-month federal prison sentence for sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
He was to be monitored by the Calgary Police Service's high-risk offender program for the next two years.
Zimmerman was twice given statutory release despite being seen by the parole board as a high risk to reoffend.
While on statutory release, he abducted and assaulted his friend's 24-year-old girlfriend with a toilet plunger, and also tied her up using power cords and shoe laces.
The assault lasted nine hours. In August 2001, while already in
jail for sexual assault, Zimmerman was sentenced to an additional 23 months for outstanding charges from 1999.
He was convicted in 2001 for an assault on his pregnant wife at a secluded campsite, where he forced her to perform sexual acts for 48 hours.
Police said he has a medium complexion, brown eyes and a shaved head.
He is five foot eight and weighs 205 pounds.
Police said Zimmerman may now be clean shaven, and could be wearing a black tuque and a white ball cap with an "Under Armour" logo in black or blue.
