Cult temples were the earthly residences of Egypt’s deities, where they were treated as the first citizens and fed and clothed and provided for. The mortuary temples were the places where the memory of the deified kings was perpetuated so they might continue to exist in the company of the gods forever.

Before the priest could enter the innermost parts of the temple, the sanctuary, where the god resided, the priest had to purify himself. This did not involve a spiritual act involving forgiveness of sins, but symbolic of ritual purity, nonetheless. The priest had to perform a series of procedures. There is evidence that at least in the New Kingdom and thereafter, priests shaved their entire bodies, and they cleansed with natron, which was used for everything. They also abstained from certain foods, though this did not involve ritual fasting. Priests were permitted to wear only garments of linen, and white papyrus sandals, no leather or wool.

On the other hand, priests normally married, had children, and enjoyed family life. During the New Kingdom, which is the source of most information about priesthood, the priests served in four phyles, each working for one month in three. For eight months they carried on their normal profession or business, whether political, administrative or commercial, then came into the temple. Before entering a temple for their service, they did abstain from sexual contact.

When they were ready to enter the temple, the priest first washed at a stone pool or cistern kept on the premises for just such a purpose. The water not only rinsed away the dirt of the streets, but it was also believed to confer energy and rejuvenation, just as the First Mound had risen from the waters at Creation and the sun acquired energy from the waters for another day. Priests also rinsed their mouths with a natron-water mixture.

It should not be thought that, since priests were often bureaucrats, and they had no recourse to special indoctrination in sacred scripture, that it was an easy matter to become a priest, or that just anyone did. There are of course instances when a father passed his priestly office to his son, grandson, or other family member, or the office was in fact purchased. The office was coveted, for its privileges and its prestige. And of course, the King could in fact appoint anyone he wished to any priestly office anywhere in Egypt.

But priesthood entailed duties and responsibilities and expectations as well. In any case, however the priestly candidate came to the office, he was inducted by virtue of a ritual. His hands were anointed, and he was presented to the god. It is thought that the 42 segments of the Declaration of Innocence, part of the Judgment of the Dead, represented an ethical code to which the priests had to live up.

The daily temple rituals were not for the benefit of congregation, nor an act of appeasement or sacrifice performed on behalf of the people. They were to honor the god by paying him courtesy and respect, and to return the blessings and gifts, which he had bestowed upon the land, and in return receive more blessings. The statue of the god was housed in a shrine in the innermost sanctuary of the temple. It was made of stone or gilded wood or even solid gold inlaid with semi-precious stones. It was considered the receptacle of the spirit of ka of the deity, not merely an idol.

As the morning sun appeared first over the horizon, the priests would intone the dawn hymn that began "Awake in peace, great god" (often the name of the specific god would be inserted herein). The most senior priest approached the sanctuary within the dimly lit temple, and break the door seal and open the sanctuary door. A ritual prayer would be spoken four time over the image of the god, giving the god back his soul so that he could reassert his physical earthly shape.

The god’s image was cleansed, rubbed with oil, and purified, its old garments removed, and incense burned to fumigate the sanctuary. The image was re-dressed in new linen garments of white, red, blue and green colors, had perfumes and cosmetics applied to his face, and was adorned with jewels.

The breakfast meal was then laid out before the shrine and the god. There was bread, joints of meat, roasted fowl, baskets of fruit and vegetables and jars of beer and wine. All the offerings were prepared in the temple kitchens, using produce from the temple estates, awarded to the temple by the king, from tithes given by tenants of the estates, or from wealthy landowners. When animals were prepared for their meat, no blood was spilt on the god’s altar, nor was the animal slaughtered in the sight of the god.

Once the god had his fill, the food was removed, perhaps first to be placed before the shrines of lesser deities, and then returned to the kitchens to be distributed as wages to the temple personnel. The image and the entire sanctuary was then sprinkled with water, five grains of natron and resin were placed on the floor, and more incense wafted. The doors of the sanctuary were then closed and resealed.

These rituals were performed three times, morning, noon and dusk, though the latter two were briefer. After the evening meal, the god’s vestments were removed before the cult statue was returned to the shrine and the Evening Hymn was recited and/or sung.

The regular feast days celebrated within the temple included First of the Month festivals and the New Moon festivals. On these days, the cult statue may have been paraded around the temple precincts, pausing for offerings to be made at places designated. At other temple rites, the statue would not move outside the innermost rooms. People could come to the outermost courts of the temple to seek the god’s help and advice. Judicial functions were also performed at the temple gates.

During major festivals such as the Opet festival at Karnak, the god’s image was taken outside of the temple enclosure in an elaborate procession. At times such as these, the people could even come forth and seek the god’s advice in the form of an oracle.

Earlier it was mentioned that priests must also serve as administrative bureaucrats, managing the temple estates and keep records of the temple storehouses and workshops. During the reign of Ramesses III, the temple of Amun at Karnak comprised 433 orchards, 421,000 head of livestock, 65 villages, 83 ships and 46 workshops, with hundreds of acres of farmland, and a total labor force of more than 81,000. The temple of Ra at Heliopolis owned hundreds of acres, 64 orchards, 45,544 head of livestock, 103 villages, 3 ships and 5 workshops, with a personnel force of 12,700. The overseers of the estates and granaries, scribes, soldiers, all reported to the high priests of their temple.

Priests had to learn writing and reading, and learn certain religious manuals by heart to understand some theology. Ritual texts however, were often read directly from scrolls, not said by heart, since even one word out of place would negate the powerful ritual act in progress.

The highest-ranking priests also attended councils of state in the royal palace, and accompanied the king during his jubilee celebrations or on his trips abroad.

additional later interpretations:

http://www.pyramidtexts.com/

There is overwhelming evidence in the Pyramid Texts:
(1) that the Hieroglyphic Letters of the Alphabet are Atlantean definers,
(2) that the Hieroglyphic Spelling of a word is its Atlantean definition,
(3) that the Hieroglyphic Grammar is programmable,
(4) that the Hieroglyphic prepositions are Atlantean case signs,
(5) that the Hieroglyphic vocabulary is an Atlantean dictionary,
(6) that Hieroglyphic writing is over 78,000 years old.

In wonderful Egypt, on the desert plateau of Saqqara 10 miles southeast of the Great Pyramid, five very similar pyramids have survived for some forty-two centuries. They are filled inside with over four thousand vertical columns of hieroglyphs, cut into their solid rock walls.

These are the Pyramid Texts which appear quite suddenly in just two centuries between 2356 BC and 2152 BC. They are found mostly in the 5th Dynasty pyramid of King Un-is and the 6th Dynasty pyramids of Teti, Pepi I, Merenr'a and Pepi II.

NEW (3/19/02) But for over a century now, Egyptologists have failed miserably to scientifically observe (or have simply chosen to ignore) the fact that the interiors of all five of these mysterious structures are actually enormous stone Hieroglyphs which pronounce the real meaning of the Pyramid Texts. Ten such three dimensional sekhem Hieroglyphs towering over four meters high at Saqqara constitute the five Central Antechambers and five Western Chambers inside of the five royal pyramids. Most of the Pyramid Texts are actually sculpted in the forty rectangular walls and twenty triangular gables inside of these ten sadly neglected megaglyphs, wherever they have survived the passage of four thousand years. sekhem is the (rest mass) 'Serpent Power or Energy' of the Universe which is over a hundred times greater (even) than our present Nuclear Energy. The secret of Universal Power is inside of these five pyramids of Saqqara. Any tourist who enters one of these unique pyramids will actually be standing inside of a sekhem megaglyph.

Most of the Pyramid Texts are non-ritual in nature. The few short lines of actual ritual text which do occur are divided off to themselves by some 390 separation lines, unmistakably sculpted in the solid rock. The meaning of the non-ritual Pyramid Texts still remains almost completely unknown to the Science of Egyptology. The purpose of this Website is to explore such non-ritual meaning wherever it occurs.

The best ritual translation of the Pyramid Texts was completed by R. O. Faulkner in his 1969 book "The Ancient Egyptian Pyramid Texts". The only other such English translation was done by Samuel A. B. Mercer in his 1952 four volume set "The Pyramid Texts in Translation and Commentary".

The non-ritual meaning of the Pyramid Texts can only be attained by carefully examining the dismissed abstract meanings of its words. And this requires the use of some Scientific form of the Pyramid Text alphabet, in order to be able to spell such words.

Telekinesis Utterance 1 is carved on the outside of Teti's Sarcophagus-lid in the Western chamber of his Pyramid. His massive stone Sarcophagus is in fact a Telekinesis Device of virtually unlimited Telekinetic Power, consisting of seven sah elements or Utterances of final instructions for controlled Telekinesis and Levitation. From the evidence in this astonishing Sarcophagus alone, it is for the first time unmistakably clear, that such technological information did exist in the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. It is Spiritual, but make no mistake, it is also Material! Utterance 1 reveals that controlling large scale or Gigantic, Telekinesis depends upon having attained the sah level of consciousness which prevails in the 'Nirvanic' Blue-Void of the Pyramid Texts.

The Leivite priests of Eygpt started to rewrite the history of the events that ended up as the old testament around the time of the 18th dynasty. Moses
was probably the story of Akhenaten and the exodus was his starting his
new religion of the Sun Worship of Aten when he moved to Amarna and created the cult. He probably hated the religion because of sibling rivalry of his brother Tuthmosis because he was shunned by the family. Tuthmosis was the Nefer of Ptah and suddenly died giving Pharaohship to Akhenaten. Nefertiti, Akhenaten's wife of would probably have been a wife of Tuthmosis if he had lived and become Pharaoh. Nefertiti's suddden disappearance coincided with the sudden appearance of a young man named Smenkhkare. Smenkhkare, who was given the same title (Neferneferuaten) as the now vanished Nefertiti, was crowned co-regent to Akhenaten when he (Smenkhkare) was about sixteen. He was married to Akhenaten's eldest daughter, Merytatene. There is uncertainty about the relationship between Akhenaten and his successors, Smenkhkare and Tutankhamun. The biggest mystery associated with Smenkhkare was where he came from. It is possible that both he and Tutankhamun were Akhenaten's sons by another wife, possibly Kiya who was 'much loved' of the Pharaoh. As there was inbreeding to keep the line pure we may never know the relationships within their family.

Tutankhamun became Pharaoh between the age of seven - nine and during his brief reign before his sudden death he restored the religion
of the old ways of Ptah back to Eygpt. I would say strong brotherhood
struggle going on in the 18th dynasty. Akhenaten was only known to have
daughters so Tutankhamun could also have been Pymander. The number
9 stands out alot with the timing, family, and the religion.

Thoth was the 'god of the equilibrium' and considered depictions of him as the 'Master of the Balance' to indicate that he was associated with the equinoxes - the time when the day and the night were balanced.

Thoth played a crucial role in the design and orientation of many famous pyramids, temples and ziggurats.

Thoth was a scribe, moralist, messenger, and a Supreme Magician - later being called Hermes, Merlin, the Trickster. He is a master magician.

It is written in the ancient texts that Thoth wrote a major work of scriptural importance that would one day be found.
It would explain the nature of our reality and allow you to find your soul's mission.

Thoth wrote books in which he set forth a fabulous knowledge of magic and incantation, and then concealed them in a crypt.

Thoth in Other Cultures

42 Books of Thoth

Z - Thoth - Hermes - in ancient Greece ... The Hermetic Text, complied in Egypt, referred to him as Kore Kosmu.

In Alexandria he was referred to as 'all knowing' -[as in eye - see article below]

Hermes understood all things.

What he knew, he carved on stone then hid most of them.

The sacred symbols of the cosmic elements [he] hid away using the secrets of Osiris, keeping and maintaining silence, that younger ages of the cosmic time clock might seek them out.

Thoth was said to have succeeded in understanding the mysteries of the heavens and to have revealed them by inscribing them in sacred books which he then hid here on Earth, intending that they should be searched for by future generations but found by those of the bloodline.

Some of these sacred books are referred to as the 42 Books of Instructions or the 42 Books of Thoth which describe the instructions for achieving immortality plus 2 more books kept separately.

The dating of the books is somewhere between the third century BC and the first century AD.

Their influence has been tremendous on the development of Western occultism and magic. Neo-pagan witchcraft contains many rituals and much esoteric symbolism based upon Hermetic writings.

The authorship of the Hermetica is legendary.

According to one legend Hermes Trismegistus, who was a grandson of Adam and a builder of the Egyptian pyramids, authored the books.

But, more probably the books were written by several succeeding persons.

Also, according to legend, the books were initially written on papyrus.

A chronicler of pagan lore, Clement of Alexandria, stated thirty-six [36] of the Hermetic books contained the entire Egyptian philosophy; four [4] books on astrology; ten [10] books called the Hieratic on law, ten [10] books on sacred rites and observances, two [2] on music, and the rest on writing, cosmography, geography, mathematics and measures and training of priests. Six [6] remaining books concerned medicine and the body discussing diseases, instruments, the eyes and women.

Most of the Hermetic books - along with others - were lost during the burning of the royal libraries in Alexandria.

The surviving books were secretly buried in the desert where they are presently located.

A few initiates of the mystery schools, ancient secret cults, supposedly know their location.

What remains of the surviving Hermetic lore has been passed down through generation and published in many languages.

Most important of all are three works.

The most important and oldest is The Divine Pynander. It consists on 17 fragments all in one work. Within these fragments are many of the Hermetic concepts, including the was divine wisdom and the secrets of the universe were revealed to Hermes and the way in which Hermes established his ministry to spread this wisdom throughout the world. The Divine Pynander apparently was revised during the first centuries AD but lost none of its meaning due to incorrect translations.

Poimmandres or The Vision is the second book of The Divine Pynander and perhaps the most famous. It relates Hermes' mystical vision, cosmogony, and the secret sciences of the Egyptians as to culture and the spiritual development of the soul.

A third work - Hermes Trismegistus is the wisdom of the Hermetica - Emerald Tablets.

Hermes the Magician

Alchemy and Consciousness

Sumer - Enki

Rome - Mercury

Mayan - Quetzalcoatl

Inca - Viracocha

Atlanteans - Chiquitet, Tehuti - Zep Tepi

Persia as the Prophet Zarathustra or Zoroaster - Z

Gauls - Theutates

Seshat is said to be Tehuti's / Thoth's female counterpart and consort. She was often depicted as his wife by the Egyptians. As reality is based on duality - one could consider her the feminine aspect of Thoth his (twin flame). This of course links her with the Goddesses Isis(Mary), Nephthys, all being the same soul. The Egyptians believed that she invented writing, while Thoth taught writing to mankind. She was known as 'Mistress of the House of Books', indicating that she also took care of Thoth's library of spells and scrolls. She is the patron of libraries and all forms of writing, including census & accounting work.

Her headdress was also her hieroglyph which may represent either a stylized rosette flower or seven pointed star on a standing goddess that is beneath a set of down-turned horns. The horns may have originally been a crescent, linking Seshat to the moon and hence to her spouse, the moon god of writing and knowledge, Thoth.

Seshat was the only female that has been found (so far) actually writing. Other women have been found holding a scribe's writing brush and palette - showing that they could read and write - but these women were never shown in the act of writing itself.

From the Second Dynasty onwards, she helped ritualized laying of the foundations of temples and the ceremony known as the stretching of the cord (referring to the mason's line used to measure out the limits of the building). She was known as Mistress of the House of Architects. She was personal god of the king, aiding and assisting him. She was said to record all of his preceedings and his accomplishments.

Thoth is the same soul as Hermes, the Magician. Seshat bore the title 'Egyptian Fairy Godmother'. Her magic wand with its seven pointed star (Atlantis)was the symbol which represented the source of all creative ideas. Her powers of cause and effect for any affectation were legendary before the founding of Egypt.

Seshat was the essence of cosmic intuition, creating the geometry of the heavens alongside her partner Thoth.

Encoded in our DNA - as part of the human experience - is the need to reunite with our twin flame. This draws us back to our creational source after we experience in third dimension. It reminds of that we will journey Home - to find this twin aspect of ourselves who loves us unconditionally and makes us feel complete - as One.

I was young but I wasn't naive
I watched helpless as he turned around to leave
And still I have the pain I have to carry
A past so deep that even you could not bury if you tried

After all this time
I never thought we'd be here
Never thought we'd be here
When my love for you was blind
But I couldn't make you see it
Couldn't make you see it
That I loved you more than you'll ever know
A part of me died when I let you go

I would fall asleep
Only in hopes of dreaming
That everything would be like is was before
But nights like this it seems are slowly fleeting
They disappear as reality is crashing to the floor

After all this time
I never thought we'd be here
Never thought we'd be here
When my love for you was blind
But I couldn't make you see it
Couldn't make you see it
That I loved you more than you'll ever know
A part of me died when I let you go

After all this time
Would you ever wanna leave it
Maybe you could not believe it
That my love for you was blind
But I couldn't make you see it
Couldn't make you see it
That I loved you more than you will ever know
A part of me died when I let you go
And I loved you more than you'll ever know
A part of me dies when I let you go
