Oil Rig Explosion in the Gulf -September 2, 2010

 The Coast Guard is responding to a rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the Coast Guard, it happened 80 miles south of Grand Isle. Rescue choppers from New Orleans and Houston are responding.

Coast Guard: Mile-long sheen spreading from burning platform

One person has been injured, 12 seem to be okay after an incident that caused a fire on an oil platform south of Vermilion Bay Thursday.

Mariner informed the governor that the platform had seven active wells on the platform, and that one of the seven wells caught fire, said Jindal.

Colombia confirms 'giant fire ball' a meteorite

Monday, 06 September

"Colombian authorities confirmed that a "giant fire ball" that fell from the sky in the central Santander department was a meteorite.

The Colombian media has been buzzing with eye witness accounts of the fireball, which fell out of the sky and caused a massive explosion at 3:15PM local time Sunday.

Bucaramanga Mayor Fernando Vargas confirmed the phenomenon was a meteorite that left a crater 100 meters in diameter where it crashed into the earth in the San Joaquin municipality in Santander.."
